When clearing large areas of snow, gravel, or even leaves, ATV plows
are the quickest, most efficient tools. These machines allow the operator
to easily move massive amounts of snow while comfortably riding and
directing the blade. With a few easy additions, any all-terrain vehicle
can become a practical snow-removal device. Whether you’ve already
made the decision to turn your ATV into a snow plow or you just have
some general questions, this site offers some valuable.
There are several options when it comes to attaching and operating a
plow blade. Each carries its own benefits - it’s just a matter
of personal preference.
Many ATVs are already equipped with ATV winches that can easily convert
into a plow by way of a simple mount. They are operated by regular winch
controls.
However, if your ATV isn’t already equipped with a winch, there
are manual and electronic alternatives that will save you the cost of
buying ATV winches and winch mounts. The electronic lift option involves
a steel cable attached to a high-strength that connects to the front
of the ATV. The height of the blade is controlled by the handlebar-mounted
rocker switch supported by a wiring harness. This harness is directly
connected to the battery, so the plow cannot be operated if the key
isn’t in the switch. Many people prefer the electronic method
for its easy use and convenience, but if you’re looking for a
more cost-effective method, the manual-style lift is just as useful.
Manual lifts consist of a lever-style arm that’s accessible and
offers direct and immediate control over blade height. Both these systems
can lift a blade 8” or more which is higher than most blade-dulling
curbs you might have on your street. The electronic and manual lifts
are also both connected to a bracket placed high up on the frame and
toward the back axle to maximize clearance and counter-balance the weight
of the blade.
The blade is obviously the most important part for an ATV snow plow.
Blades are tubular frame hardware made from powdered steel to perform
adequately and durable enough to withstand all types of matter - making
replacement unnecessary. Blades come in all sizes, from as small as
42” all the way up to 72” to accommodate larger vehicles.
These also have different curvatures which create different spray patterns.
Less-curvy and tapered blades send snow up in the air and far out of
the way, while curvier styles contain spray distance and height to avoid
damaging property. Blades also come in all styles and colors to match
any ATV.
Manufacturers such as Warn, SnowBear and SnowSport are well known for
